Swamp Boat Tours New Orleans

from:

Much is mentioned in tour guides about airboat rides and tours in New Orleans, and rightly so – if you are a thrill-seeker, they might be right up your alley. But this is often done at the expense of traditional boat tours. They might not be as hair-raising as whizzing around on an airboat, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t fun and interesting in their own right; when it comes to swamp boat tours, New Orleans has some of the best scenery, flora and fauna you will find.

Most swamp boat tours New Orleans are designed to take large tour groups through the bayous and plantations of New Orleans and surrounding areas. Mingling with fellow tourists can be a great way to meet new people.

Depending on the season and time of day, it may be wise to take warm clothing with you.

Tours generally take a couple of hours, although some may take more or less time.

Passengers are free to use camcorders and take as many photos as they wish, but need to remember that tour-boat companies are not responsible for damage to passengers’ equipment.

All the tour guides on any swamp boat tours New Orleans, are well trained with regards to local flora and fauna. Many give informative presentations as part of the tour, and will alert passengers to anything of interest that the group comes by along the way.

The swamps and bayous of New Orleans are teeming with wildlife and local flora. Below are just a few examples of what tourists commonly spot on swamp boat tours; New Orleans, however, does have a thriving ecosystem that may differ depending on the time of year. Weeping willows and cypress trees draped with Spanish moss are truly a sight to behold. Other trees and plants in the swamps include mangroves, red maples, and a wide variety of vines and shrubs. Owls, egrets, hawks, baby alligators, snakes, bald eagles and blue herons (among many other critters) have all been known to frequent the swamps. Given the right circumstances, some tour guides have even been known to bring a baby alligator or two for a quick visit onboard so passengers can see them close-up! The variety of marine life spotted on swamp boat tours in New Orleans is amazing, and this generally changes seasonally.

When you go on one of the many swamp boat tours in New Orleans, knowing what to expect and, more importantly, what to look out for, can really enhance your experience. The scenery of the bayous is something to behold, and with a little background knowledge you can take in as much as possible.
